Verão Quântico: A Brief History
The first Verão Quântico (Quantum Summer) was held 1998 at the department of physics of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES). On that occasion, just three mini-courses were presented covering the topics of Quantum Cosmology, Quantum Gravity and Cosmological Pertubation Theory. The main target recipient were graduated and PhD students from UFES, CBPF and UFJF.
The first meeting was quite informal and was re-organized in the same form during the following years. The scope was above all to create an atmosphere of discussion (and brainstorming) on the state-of-the-art of Gravitation and Cosmology. It did not constitute a proper conference or symposium. The latter form was reached in 2007, and then in 2009 and 2011.
The principal themes discussed in the recent editions of Verão Quântico were:

The principal themes discussed in the recent editions of Verão Quântico were:
- Black Holes Thermodynamics: limits of the semi-classical application
- Geometrical foundations of the theory of the isometric immersion of the spacetime in five dimensions, with applications to Gravitation and Cosmology
- Quantum effects generated by topological defects
- The cosmological constant problem and quantum effects in the vacuum
- Loop Quantum Gravity and Spin Foam
- Cosmological Perturbation Theory
- Dark Matter and Dark Energy
